I'm Dylusional!

A bunch of us got together at Prairie Art Stamps and played with Dyan Reaveley's stamps and ink sprays.  Our group was led by Gail who gave us guidelines and ideas.  I've been wanting to learn how to do this type of background for journaling pages.

This piece includes some neon pencil under the spray inks, stenciling, stamping.  We used Dyan's kitchen roll (paper towels) technique as seen in her video.  We used water color paper. As you can tell from the photo, I need to flatten the piece before framing it.  New product purchased:  Sharpie water based paint in white with extra fine point.  I used it to outline the hearts.

My dylusional life of late has kept me from entering my favorite challenges.  I do believe this piece was created the day after the original F&F challenge post requesting stencils and masks. So I'm now officially entering this on the funkie side of Frilly and Funkie Stencils and Masks.

Farewell to the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer.  Back in the early 80's, I totally wore out my cassette tape of your hit songs.  Today's post features one of her songs on my Mixpod.

Bird Cage Card for Gecko Galz

This month for my design team project, I chose one of the beautiful black and white digital "stamps" in the Paris Flea Market set to create this card for Gecko Galz.

If you are a frequent reader of my blog, you may recall that recently my two daughters "gifted" me their scrapbooking supplies as they decided it really was mom's hobby, not theirs.  DD1 gave me a slew of Heidi Grace papers and embellishments.  I thought the patterns perfectly matched the Gecko Galz bird cage in the center of this card.

To create some interest, I used my new set of Spellbinders Nestabilites Curved Rectangles for layering.  I thought the fun shape added to the whimsy feel of the birdcages.

Gown Card

It all started with my blog visit to 1CardCreator where I saw the beautiful gown template from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.  The fact that it also was on sale that day made it a "no brainer" purchase for me.  I couldn't wait to play and found some challenges to go with my shaped gown card.  Patterned paper from the Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage 6"x12" classic paper pack was a perfect match for the color challenges.

Here are the four challenges I entered:

My Impression of Wedding Lace

I'm very excited today because my first article as an unruly columnist is published in the Unruly Paper Arts blogozine.  This month's theme is Wedding Wonders.  And my column, Musings of a 2amscrapper, focuses on wedding lace.  With a little help of my friends, Lynn Stevens, Nancy Maxwell James, and Lynne Moncrieff, my column showcases their amazing work with lace.  Please check it out HERE and then visit the links to their personal blogs.

Here is the tag I made for my first article:

Rumors Are Flying was number one on the hit parade the month my mother ventured onto an airplane in November of 1946 to meet her wartime pen pal in England.  After a brief "in person" courtship, she married my dad in Nottingham, England which was followed by a brief honeymoon before her return to the States.  Due to U.S. immigration quotas after the war, it took two years to be reunited.

(The first 2 songs on my blog playlist during this original posting are from the month my parents married.  The songs seem so appropriate for the occasion!! )

Details about this Nottingham lace and how I used it in my tag can be found in my UPA column HERE.

In addition to our unruly columns, we have two Reader Art Quests this month.  If you haven't yet become unruly, I hope you'll visit Unruly Paper Arts soon!

A list of some of the materials I used while making my tag:
Spellbinder Nestabilities Fleur De Lis Rectangle cut/emboss die

A Bird Challenge for You

In conjunction with her first kit release in her Etsy shop, the Vintage Page Designs Bird Kit, Ali Manning is hosting a bird challenge on her blog. Vintage Page Designs.

As guest designer for her limited edition kit, here is the sample I made for her challenge:

About my card:
I used one of the beautiful quality blank cards that Ali sent me.  I set out to paint a background to match the birds that I fussy cut from one of the kit pages--each page a vintage original in pristine condition. I ended up using a mixture of Adirondack acrylic paints mixed with ArtQuest USA MicaColor watercolors in vintage tones.  I added the lace trim from the kit.  Ali packages her products so beautifully that I hate to open them.  Obviously I did open them, but saved every bit of wrap.  Some of that wrap is the twine behind the Jenni Bowlin banner I created to make the word chirp.  I photographed my card resting on top of one of the vintage dictionary pages from the kit.

I hope you have time to play along with the bird challenge. You'll find the details on Ali's blog HERE along with inspirational samples from the other guest designers.
